it's very beautiful cathedral and it has a big square front of it, it should be your first destination when you arrive to the city

A beautiful cathedral in the square. The marble columns were enormous holding up the roof. There was netting over the ceiling to protect people from stones falling down after the 2016 earthquake

Beautiful cathedral but especially interesting is the amazing polyptych by Carlo Crivelli on the right of the transept. Interesting crypt as well with possibly reused columns

The cathedral itself is extremely beautiful and well worth a quick visit. Unfortunately the catacombs/crypts are not officially open and I would say that there is no guarantee that you are allowed to enter them which is a bit unfortunate as they are one of the unique things about this cathedral.

Nessuna descrizione renderebbe omaggio alla bellezza di questa cattedrale. Situata in Piazza Arringo, é una scoperta. È qui conservata la copia, unica al mondo, della Sacra Sindone, ottenuta non da mano umano ma per sovrapposizione alla Sacra Sindone di Torino. Infatti nessuno strumento ha rilevato pennellate o riproduzioni \umane\. Altra \chicca\ é l'incredibile cripta. Tra le più belle mai viste. Qui si possono vedere parte degli scavi dell'Ascoli romana e i mosaici. Ogni volta è a tema e ogni volta lascia a bocca aperta. Oggi la cripta non era completamente aperta ai visitatori a causa dei lavori in corso. Risalendo dalla cripta, altro splendore sono le volte a conchiglia e l'altare. In una cappellina sono conservate anche le reliquie di Sant'Emidio, tra cui un braccio e due cassettine di legno che contenevano le ossa,oltre ad altri cimeli. Da vedere!!!
