Probably one of the most beautiful hospital entrances, albeit unique with the water front emergency entrance. Desk person Aldo was very helpful and we appreciated his linguistic diversity too. However, don’t expect to see a doctor for at least eight hours because everybody was sick before you and they only have two ER doctors at any time.

Worst experience ever in a Hospital... More than two hours waiting in the emergency waiting room. The ratio is 1.5 patients per hour because we were 5 people in the waiting room and it took more than 3hours to go in and see the doctor... Which is great when you're on holidays for 4 days in Venice! I recommend not coming here if you are a foreigner... Try private clinics or risk dying here...

Have just returned from Venice during which time I had to make a visit to an emergency A&E unit due to severe abdominal pains. Prior to making my visit I had time to review options and read previous reviews. As it was a Sunday the only hospital open locally was SS Giovanni and I was unnerved to read the mostly disparaging reviews that had been written. However with no alternative I hesitantly made my way there. In contrast to other reviewers I found the service exemplary. OK, the receptionist did not speak perfect English but she was more than capable of checking me in and summoning immediate help (by comparison which hospital in the UK could you go to speaking Italian and receive such an effective arrival?). I was now doubled up with abdominal pain and was given first priority which resulted in a doctor speaking perfect English coming to my aid within only a very few minutes. He was able to diagnose my likely problem and made arrangements for me to be transferred to and thoroughly examined in a private room by a second doctor, again speaking perfect English . This second doctor quickly ascertained my medical needs and immediately commenced treatment. Fortunately my condition was relatively straight forward to correct and I was soon recuperating having meet a few other staff who were all attentive, friendly and able to speak very good English. Within a few hours I was discharged and was able to thank a few of the staff who had made my visit painless, literally. In these few words I have difficulty praising the effectiveness of the hospital staff adequately, 5 stars no doubt, particularly in view of the reviews I had read prior to arrival. My heartfelt thanks go out to all at the Hospital SS Giovanni e Paolo who made my visit painless.

Don't go there if you have an emergency. I have been waiting for hours. I have seen people waiting here from morning till night. There aren't enough doctors and a proper system for patients.
