Maurizio (Arawak's founder and owner) is a fantastic sailing instructor, a skilful skipper and even a great cook. Both me and my sister have obtained the on- and off-shore boating license after attending the sailing course at Arawak: a difficult but highly rewarding journey. We were taught all the necessary technical knowledge, over and over again (thanks for your patience!). Even more remarkably, Maurizio managed to infect us with his endless love for sailing, something I eventually became very passionate about. The King Arawak is a rather impressive sloop of just under 20m, much bigger and more spacious than 'ordinary' leisure sailboats. It has some nice extras which are not normally present on other boats (electric toilets, now even air conditioning). Do not expect ultimate luxury but you can confidently expect a solid boat which is well worth the price paid for. Plus, with Maurizio you know you are always in a safe pair of hands. I don't really understand the negative comment previously posted, but I guess you can never accommodate everyone (plus, remember that a sailing holiday is a very peculiar kind of experience: it can be absolutely breathtaking, but you do need to be well suited for it! Space is restricted and group spirit is key). My family and I have travelled on the King Arawak to Istria and Brijuni islands over an extended Easter weekend and would jump at the chance of doing so again.

King Arawak. The sailing yacht is 30 years old, nice in photos but in reality very old with little space on deck and appears to be worryingly lacking maintenance (eg. lacking latches, wire extremities frayed, the life buoy cord used for mooring the dinghy to the yacht). The kitchen was dirty and cluttered, the fridge didn’t cool sufficiently (in summer!), the navigational instruments functioned intermittently (needing frequent ‘re-booting’) and our cabin smelt of sulphuric (battery) acid. The skipper, who is also the owner, consistently recounted his performances and vast life experience to his guests during the voyage. Highlighting any incongruence was strongly unwelcomed. 'To contain expenses', in Croatia he avoids, where he can, berthing in comfortable and well organised marinas and in the evenings docks in 2nd choice crowded spots where mooring is a battle and getting to land is a complicated logistical operation. Given such a strange practice seems to be standard procedure on King Arawak, it seems evident that it's typical guest should be happy to save lets see: 80 euro per night (the most expensive berth, Dubrovnik) divided by 8 persons (4 double cabins) and therefore 10 euro per head… In summary: a neglected yacht for the budget minded. We really regret the money and the time we spent on it.

Barca splendida e super accessoriata.
