An exceptional site, embedded in a breathtaking Puglian landscape, the place of death of Federico II, the emperor, king of both Sicilies, Jerusalem and leader of the Swabians after he fell sick during a hunting expedition. His extraordinary life ended there in December 1250. Fiorentino had been a bishop‘s see with church and cathedral and a domus of Federico II. The ruins of these sites can still be seen. In 1255 troops of the pope attacked the site and the inhabitants moved to Torremagiore. In the centuries to come the inhabitants used Fiorentino as stone pit for building and decorating Torremagiore. Futher the table of Federico II serves now as altar in the cathedral of Lucera. In 2000 a stele in reminiscence of the house of Hohenstauffen got erected which is in octogon shape and crowned with a golden belt on top. Until 1990’s also archeological efforts were done there. Clearly negative is that this site is overall not taken care of. Grass is growing on the archeological sites, relevant evidences are not protected. The way to the site is not signposted and the street up to Fiorentino is not taken care of and adventurously dangerous for regular cars. The small parking site is messy and polluted. The 4 stars go to the site for its value and what was done until around year 2000. Further the view is breathtaking. The mentioned negative points shall be taken care of, it is shameful, unfortunately there is no other word for it.

Un luogo magico.. fuori dal tempo.. Salendo si sente solo il rumore del vento e torni indietro nella storia con il pensiero. Panorama stupendo soprattutto al tramonto.. Inoltre è un importante sito storico, Peccato non è curato. Poche indicazioni, erbacce sulle rovine, insomma è tenuto male ma la suggestione del luogo ripaga la camminata panoramica che si deve fare per arrivare alle rovine.
Luogo storico importantissimo, si tratta del luogo dove morì Federico II di Svevia, il castello è a pochi chilometri da Torremaggiore ed è facilmente raggiungibile... Da visitare
Luogo storicamente e paesaggisticamente suggestivo. Dovrebbe essere valorizzato maggiormente. Se avete una macchina alta, proseguite fino alla fine della strada, al termine della quale c'è uno spiazzo prima dell'ingresso al sito.

Sito importantissimo, da recuperare e valorizzare. Difficile arrivare alla meta perché è poco segnalaro. Occorre chiedere informazioni al personale del posto per poterci arrivare... I ruderi raccontano la fine dello Stupor Mundi che tanto ha dato a quella terra. Da visitare. Suggestivo il volo dei falchi sul sito.
Spero che questo luogo, solo da poco recuperato, possa quanto prima passare da meta per estimatori a sito turistico di interesse, come meriterebbe. Ancora difficilmente raggiungibile, sia per la scarsa segnaletica sia per le deprecabili condizioni del manto stradale. Ancora poco pubblicizzato. Ancora poco frequentato. Tuttavia qs isolamento lascia, a chi vi si reca, il silenzio delle emozioni e delle riflessioni. I resti archeologici sono più di quanto si immagini. La salita, sterrata, è percorribile in auto ma anche a piedi. Panorama a 360 gradi sul Tavoliere e sull'Appennino. Vento e silenzio. Un falco vola, in alto, nel cielo...
