Not all trains allowed Attention, here comes just another tourist scam from italy. You are not allowed to take ALL trains from Monterosso to la Spezia although we were told so at the ticket counter. If you take the wrong ones you have to pay 15 extra p.p. ... The porters are very rude and unforgiving. Our porter held our other train tickets hostage until we paid extra...

Not really sure what all the poor reviews are about. There are lifts to the platforms. It gets quite busy in the mornings with everyone setting off to Cinque Terra, but much quieter in the afternoons (so better if you're visiting the tourist office and don't want to wait in the queues). Staff are quite helpful - generally assuming you just want the Cinque Terra card, but if you ask they can provide more info. I didn't interact with any of the other railway staff. Clear departure boards, and staff available on platform 1 to help you find the right train. It's about 15 mins walk to the center of town, but the walk from the station is mostly pedestrianised, with shops/cafes/restaurants. Maybe 35-40 mins walk to the cruise terminal (5mins taxi).

We bought 4 tickets (64) to visit Cinque Terra during the whole day. We took our first train from la Spezia to the last village at 9h and it was packed with people already, but it was on time at least. The ticket allows you to hop on and off the train to visit every village ,as many times as you wish. The next train we took was delayed 30 minutes and it was impossible to fit in, people pushing and arguing for a space inside a train without air contioned. And so on, every village we faced a delayed train and dangerous conditions of crowds of people going in and out under high temperatures of August. We had never seen something similar. We left the first village, which was our last, without visiting, to avoid repeating the horrible train experience again. Definetely a pity to promote a beautiful area like this, packed with local people and tourists and with such a bad transport. A pity as the area is so beautiful.

ZERO STARS Atrocious experience obtaining a ticket for Cinque Terre. Staff member was rude and obnoxious and made no effort to explain anything. Just threw the documents at us and continued talking to a fellow staff member. Memorisation of a couple of simple sentences would suffice - “Please validate your card at the green booths on platform 1 before boarding the train. The next train leaves for Cinque terre from platform _ in 15 minutes”

Was a very bad experience, the station is dirty and the elevators don’t work, I had to carry my huge bags on the stairs. The waiting area is so cold, and the number of the train lines changes suddenly at the last minute

Stazione in fase di ristrutturazione poco agibile la sera per gli ascensori chiusi. Servizio taxi sull'esterno attivo e stazione pullman funzionante sino ad un certo orario.
