In the beautiful region of Tuscany, where vineyards, history, art, harmony, nature and beauty are just some of the beauty of living, Pisa is located. Apart from the famous Leaning Tower and the Cathedral is known for the exceptional baptistery of St. John the Baptist. It is located on Campo dei Miracoli, the so-called \Field of Miracles\. Although it began in the Romanesque style, the Baptistery was completed in the Gothic style, and its interior is adorned with a pulpit from the 13th century and a bronze figure of St. John the Baptist. Construction began in 1152 to replace the older baptistery, and when completed in 1363, became the second building, in chronological order, in the Piazza dei Miracoli, near the Duomo of Pisa and the cathedral's free-standing campanile, the famous Leaning Tower of Pisa. The baptistery was designed by Diotisalvi, whose signature can be read on two pillars inside the building, with the date 1153. The dome is covered by lead sheets on the east and red tiles towards the west. Much of the exterior decorations were done by the talented Niccolo Pisano and his son Giovanni in the late 13th century. The busts of prophets and apostles on the arcades are copies, the originals by Giovanni Pisano are now mostly in the Cathedral Museum. The main portal is decorated with reliefs including the events from the life of John the Baptist carved into the pillars flanking the portal. The baptistery inside is magnificent, among other things it has exceptional echos. These echoes are enhanced by the cylindrical shape of the baptistry topped by a pyramidal-shaped interior roof, rather than the round cupola seen from the outside. The most important artwork in the Baptistery is the exceptional pulpit sculpted by Niccola Pisano in 1260, many art historians start the Renaissance from here.

Amazing baptistery made of marble. Completed in 1363, it is the second building in chronological order of the Piazza dei Miracoli. It is the largest baptistery in Italy: 55m high with a diameter of 34m. It shows both the Romanesque and the Gothic style: the lower section is in the Romanesque style, with rounded arches, while the upper sections are in the Gothic style, with pointed arches.

Really beautiful. You can even get a view of the cathedral and the tower from the top. Try to be there when they demonstrate the echoes. Something extraordinary.

The Florence Baptistery, also known as the Baptistery of Saint John (Italian: Battistero di San Giovanni), is a religious building in Florence, Italy, and has the status of a minor basilica.[1][better source needed] The octagonal baptistery stands in both the Piazza del Duomo and the Piazza San Giovanni, across from Florence Cathedral and the Campanile di Giotto. The Baptistery is one of the oldest buildings in the city, constructed between 1059 and 1128 in the Florentine Romanesque style. Although the Florentine style did not spread across Italy as widely as the Pisan Romanesque or Lombard styles, its influence was decisive for the subsequent development of architecture, as it formed the basis from which Francesco Talenti, Leon Battista Alberti, Filippo Brunelleschi, and other master architects of their time created Renaissance architecture. In the case of the Florentine Romanesque, one can speak of \proto-renaissance\, but at the same time an extreme survival of the late antique architectural tradition in Italy, as in the cases of the Basilica of San Salvatore, Spoleto, the Temple of Clitumnus, and the church of Sant'Alessandro in Lucca.

Extra ordinary exterior and okayish interior ! It looks beautiful standing next to the leaning tower of Pisa . You have a huge lawn area adjacent to the baptistery which is beautiful. I spent couple of hours in the lawn looking at the exterior beauty of baptistery and leaning tower. Would not recommend to spend money to see the interior but would recommend to spend the time admiring the beauty of this architecture from outside .
