Visit a place where time forgot! Matera is a truly stunning town. You could easily spend two or three days here just walking the streets and National Park. The transition from the old town into the park is amazing and the views are simply breathtaking. Traversing the suspension bridge into the park leaves you feeling like your walking next to dinosaurs. Climbing the steep walk to the opposite side is well worth it but take plenty of water and some really good walking shoes/boots. Trainers aren’t really going to do the job. You are surrounded in history and magical culture with loads of beautiful places to eat and drink.

Best to get yourself a guide to take you trekking round the churches (Alessio Leardi is the best), and enjoy the wild countryside and these gorgeous, almost unknown ancient churches carved into the rock. Magical.
Nice Palace for An hike
Great spot. Can get there by car. If you walk from Matera then make sure to have closed shoes or they will deny you to continue your walk downwards. Appearantly they dont want to be liable for people wearing sandals. Supposedly all byzantines, sarancens and romans who lived there tripped so badly over their sandals that their heads cracked the rocks. Hence the caves.
Matera. Very special historical place. Must see. If you crossing around here make a stop and take time
