TL; DR: awesome! Read further for my personal experience and tips I've read about Ötzi as a child and this fascinating story really stuck with me. So imagine how I felt when I had a chance to hike to the actual Ötzi finding place! It was amazing. Note that Similaun, and Ötztal Alps in general, is a special place with a special microclimate - which is one of the reasons why Ötzi was preserved so well. The area between Similaun and Vent looks very different from what you usually see on Tyrol/Swiss/Bavarian postcards: it is mostly a barren landscape with numerous streams and waterfalls - and, of course, glaciers. Also instead of cows there are sheep and groundhogs everywhere I was visiting Ötzi monument from Similaunhütte in late July, and the hike was quite challenging (especially since it was snowing the night before and the melted snow froze into icy crust on the stones). So be aware and proceed only if you're experienced and surefootted - and expect possible snow at any season. TIP: Take hiking poles and maybe gaters (to keep the snow out), but crampons/spikes are not really needed for the hike in summer. You will need them though if you decide to ascend the Similaun glacier - so consider this when planning your trip From the monument you have several ways to go to; I descended to the North, where you can hike down the valley to Martin Busch Hütte to grab that Ruß'n. TIP: There is a webcam which is pointing to the monument. Search for "Tisenjoch webcam". The webcam is saving pictures every 30 min, and I was actually lucky to later find myself there TIP: If you're really into Ötzi and want to visit the monument, then consider visiting archeoParc Schnalstal - it's a very nice deep-dive into Ötzi's anthropological context, his finding place and the history of the valley. And of course you must visit the Bolzano museum to learn about Ötzi himself!

Worth to go there after or before the museum in Bozen, to understand where he was found.

Ötzi was found in North Tyrol and he should lie in Innsbruck. The border like it is on Maps was drawn in 2006. It's all a big farce and Austria is the loser, like always...
