When I went there were renovations under way inside so I didn't get to see a whole lot. I know it is a significant historical site, but I didn't see any reference to its history inside. Perhaps I just missed it. You may want to read up on it before going.

Beautiful cathedral. Renovations underway inside. The staircase is incredible and the side altars! The crypt is only open from 2.30pm in the afternoon.
