Let's start with the good stuff...food was amazing cooked by the lovely Sandra, yoga and massage by Emily was fabulous and views are pretty and far reaching. Local spa was very nice as was the restaurant, both 20mins twisty drive. You have to rely on Kevin, the owner's husband to drive though. The not so good...the rooms are VERY rustic, dark, damp and not so private so if you want clean, bright, airy, bug free and a comfy bed then this is not for you. Beds are 'Z' beds so extremely springy and not supportive teamed with a very soft mattress. Plenty of dust, dirt and a shower that is over the toilet and a window with upper body view so if anyone walks past they can see you, perfect if you're an exhibitionist. Scorpions were found twice! There are no areas to really chill and relax, the 'swimming pool' (a giant version of a kids paddling pool) is in the car park along with some loungers and chairs so every time a car drives up you get covered in a cloud of dust. It's very isolated and the drive is very winding and twisty so there is nothing to do. The ugly...the owner Tess is a self confessed alcoholic who dominated the conversation non stop at every meal, talked over people and always extremely opinionated. She also spoke very negatively and inappropriately about her 'staff' who were, all but one, volunteers (being exploited/modern slavery) as well as the other guests. Tess will give you a good story on how she's doing them a favour for their assisted yoga teaching hours, reality is when guests are doing yoga the volunteers are preparing breakfast and dinner so they are rarely there. She also burst into tears one afternoon in front of guests as she was struggling to cope with all the complaints. Highly unprofessional and shouldn't be running a retreat with all her own issues.

Leading a busy and rather stressful London life (with two small kids and two small family businesses) I was craving and searching for a real escape, somewhere I could replenish my energy, nourish my body, and reconnect with myself. Abundance Yoga Retreats at San Flaviano Monastery provided all of that and much much more.” “Just the place it is located in could alone provide me with all the things I needed. The retreat is in the midst of spectacular lush serene mountains, I can’t imagine a better place to leave all your worries and breathe deeply, find your center and relax.. And when all of this is coupled with a superb food, amazing yoga and the best hospitality, you definitely wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.. It feels all of the aspects of the self, the body, the mind and the spirit are thoroughly looked after.” “The food is lovingly prepared by the hosts, always fresh, natural and locally sourced and inspired. Yoga is just at the pace you want it to be, with attentive, always smiling, supportive and very talented teacher. Yet what really stayed with me is the values, the whole beautiful ethos that the whole retreat is run according, and the hospitality! I felt at home, I felt welcome and looked after as if I was a good family friend. Tess Hunneybell that runs the retreat, doesn't just ‘run the retreat’, she open the doors of her beloved home to you, and welcome you with her heart open, with love and passion for what she does, for working with people, and enormous experience and professionalism in her trade, except that her ‘trade’ is not just her ‘trade’, it’s her life and her heart, and I feel privileged to have met Tess and have been a part of her wonderful project! I still carry this renewed energy within me and can’t wait to go back!

“Stunning views” the ad said, well they certainly were. I went for a short hike with the girls and sat on top of the world looking 360. I loved my Yoga sessions, done while looking at the ancient frescoes thinking “I wonder what they would have thought of all these yogis stretching around in their church like this?”. Food? Inspiring - Check. Yoga? – defining – check. Value? – worth every last cent. San Flaviano Was built for pilgrims of all kinds. Go be one.

A beautiful home to come home to your heart. Set in fabulous surroundings waking up here is the most wonderful experience, practising yoga in the old church was divine with fabulous acoustics for chanting mantras, and then abundant meals throughout the day home-cooked from locally sourced Italian ingredients. A delightful oasis of calm xxx

Fantastic rustic retreat to refresh your soul and rediscover yourself. Very gracious host. All local organic meals. Yoga in an old church...does not get any better. The peacefulness and beauty of the mountains will take your breath away. Counting the days to go back again️\u200d️

What was the most memorable or exciting part of my holiday? For me was the feeling of calm & wellness that this holiday brings is amazing! Gorgeous sunshine, some time to explore , a lovely villa setting and all in the context of looking after yourself. I've never treated myself in this way before but to spend 6 days with great food, yoga, & a few indulgent treatments has reset me in the way I look after myself, I feel so well.My tips would for other travelers booking this holiday is don't skimp on the treatments! Try to have a few over the time you are there but you also need time to lie by the pool too.Food was superb , an amazing thing to be saying on a detox & true compliment to our chef for the week, Michele. Lovely small group of people & I'll definitely return. It's totally changed how I look after myself on a day to day basis for the better.

I had a wonderfully relaxing, ernergising and truly inspirational stay at San Flaviano. The food (cooked by wonder woman and host Tess) was delicious and the views amazing as we sat under the stars watching firebugs doing their mating flight. The Yoga was tough enough to keep me interested but not too hard to feel a gradual increase in my abilities and ‘bendiness’ as my husband calls it. “Recommended” to put it succinctly.
