Greve in Chianti is the bustling market town of the Chianti Classico wine zone located between Florence and Siena. It can be reached easily by SITA bus from Florence (one hour). Greve makes a great base for exploring Chianti and more distant parts of Tuscany. It's a "real" town with a certain charm that makes it attractive to tourists who spend most of there time here strolling around Piazza Matteotti, the main square ("triangle" is a better description). There is a good supermarket and many food outlets and restaurants, as well as a few speciality shops (ceramics, basketwork etc). Most importantly, there are many, inexpensive places to stay in and around Greve. Within the town there are excellent vacation apartments and B&Bs, while the hills are dotted with agriturismi (apartments, farm houses and villas).
