Beautiful old town and smallish but well preserved castle with an interesting history. The Guidi's seemed to be on the losing side of local wars quite a lot! Nice cafe just outside

Both the castle and the area around it , enjoy a near-perfect maintenance; even the grass in the pit that surrounds the castle itself is mowned regularly. Entering the Castle is like making a trip through time, and being thrown into the dark ages. The audio-guide is fabulous but I am not sure if it is available in languages other than Italian; it's worth asking. We chose to ascend to the ancient Poppi from downtown not by car, but by \going medieval\, through a limestone paved walkway. I don't advise you to do the same if you suffer fron any heart related conditions; it's a long way to the top , and you don't wonna rock 'n' roll all the way back to the bridge on the Arno river.

My wife and I got married here in 2007. It's the most beautiful castle. It has it all - including a medieval history, feuding families, frescoes and the most amazing views. The castle is well maintained and is definitely worth a visit. We visited again in 2018 and it's still as stunning. There is a lovely cafe on site to enjoy the view and an amazing restaurant across the road. Views from the Tower of the castle of the Casentino Valley are some of the best in Italy.

This was worth the drive from Florence. Really enjoyed touring the castle - well preserved and beautiful library. View from the top is fantastic.
